Can you spot the review I paid for?

In the wake of Tuesday's blog post, I wanted to show you a portion of the reviews I've received over the course of my writing career. I want you all to tell me which one I paid for, like certain authors have done in the recent past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, February 19, 2011

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
I went into this book expecting to really enjoy it and wasn't disappointed. Jaclyn Johnson is a great character that I would love to read about again. At the end of the book is a sneak peek into the next in the series - Rogue Agent. I'm excited!

Though the main character is Jaclyn Johnson, the author does a wonderful job of telling the story from above and making the situations and characters extremely believable. I'd love to tout the fact that this book is full of strong female characters but that doesn't mean the book is geared toward women only. It's not.

This story line is great and the writing descriptive and flows with ease. This is not a short book and I finished it in just a couple of days because I just couldn't put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next.

I can hardly wait until the next installment!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treat, February 16, 2011
This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
I had the privilege of reading this book before publication. Mr. Sweeney is an intriguing new voice in this popular genre, who has created a character who grow on you, even while retaining room to grow. The plot is believable, and frightening, the secondary characters are broader than in most novels, given both life and motivations of their own. I really enjoyed the read and look forward to what should be many additional titles in this series.

This is a quick review - I will do a more detailed one as time allows.

I truly enjoyed this book. Because of work constraints, it took me a while to read it, but it really stayed in my head. The thought that this is plausible, which it is, scares me. I would love to see this book put into a movie.

Thank you for writing this book, Mr. Sweeney! Keep up the great work!

Take two parts action, one part intrigue, a dash of history and a pinch of wit. Mix it all together, throw in lots of local references (for those of you who know Boston and Worcester you will feel like you are walking right beside Jaclyn), add a ton of cool gadgets and a female Bond and you have a winner! Model Agent is a great read! I can't wait for the sequel, Rogue Agent! Excellent job Sean!

Move over, 007, you have competition! Jaclyn Johnson is a model. She's also a specially trained CIA operative, that the director has been saving for just the right time, and the time is now. A maniac genius is on the loose, and he has big, TERRIBLE plans for the country. He has to be stopped. This book starts fast and doesn't slow down til the end, and that's not even the end, because Sean Sweeney then gives us a taste of the sequel, which is eagerly awaited by new Jaclyn Johnson fans.

A story with a modern day female "James Bond" CIA agent with an unusual disability, a female president and a female in charge of the CIA!!! Women in charge! An enjoyable read, well written story, a nicely paced thriller of mystery and murders. Don't know why I waited so long to read this one...it was fantastic!

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
I thought this was a very good book from start to finish. Snapshot is definitely a 007/Wonder Woman type of CIA agent. She has all sorts of tricks and toys that she uses against the villains. It kept me intrigued to see what she would do next. I hope that the second installment is released soon. Sean Sweeney is a great Indie Author. I highly recommend for readers who are interested in the spy story genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love twists and turns, don't miss this one!, April 6, 2011
This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
I was caught up in this story in the first couple pages and it was a fast paced, wild ride from there on out. The story moved along quickly, filled with a ton of twists and turns, that do come together by the end! The twists don't stop either, I was still completely sideswiped by one in Chapter 32! It was a great read from the first page to the last. If you like thrillers and stong female characters, you'll enjoy this. Heck, if you enjoy a good book, this one is fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jaclyn IS Bond with [...]but that simply doesn't tell you how good Sweeney is!, March 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
The cover promises something akin to a spy novel with a sexy female heroine... and it delivers THAT... but it is so much more. In his first foray into the crime/thriller/spy genre Sweeney creates a character that you not only love but become invested in. She is not only skilled and crafty but human and the kind of character you want to root for.

I won't tell you much about the story because I don't want to give away the plot or the killer moments -- but they are there. If you loved Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or are a fan of the Camel Club series then you will be overjoyed with Jaclyn Johnson and Model Agent! I can't wait for the second book to come out!

5.0 out of 5 stars The tagline says it all!, March 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
I bought this book because of the tagline: If Bond had Boobs. I think that is very funny. It is also accurate. This is definitely a Bond type story. Special Agent Jaclyn Johnson is a Model who is also a secret CIA Agent. Lots of techy gadgets and a very cool car.

This book is very well written. It is clear that the author is very familiar with Boston and is very descriptive. While I don't know if it was the authors intent I loved that the Agent had a disability and that there were a number of strong women characters in the story. This is a very entertaining thriller. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Wow! This is a fast paced read about a most unusual female CIA agent with some mighty fancy toys! Jaclyn Johnson, aka Agent Snapshot, is ready for her first mission after ten years of training by the government. Using her cover job as a model, she begins to infiltrate her adversary's space. Jaclyn is driven by her desire to help those who are in need and she accomplishes her tasks with an arsenal of cool gadgets and an awesome car! The story takes place in Boston and the surrounding area and having only been to Boston twice, I enjoyed looking up some of the places mentioned on Google. The visuals really made the story pop for me! (I do remember the swan boats!)

At first I was a bit distracted by a few parts of the story that I found not quite believable, but then I realized, Shapshot, as a female 007, is just following tradition! Also, nice to see several strong female characters with brains! All in all, this was a great read! I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 STAR for new author. Sean has a new fan. This was a very interesting mystery/thriller book with a plausible plot !!, February 27, 2011

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) grabbed me from the very beginning to the very last word. The characters are vivid in your mind and the description and detail Sean gives for places and locations in Boston which made me take the time to keep goolgling them as I went along and it made me feel like I was right there with all the characters . It was like watching a movie to beable to see the places Sean described.

I loved Snapshot and what she stands for, loved her CIA boss who believed in Snapshot, also loved Sarah Keller ( as a woman president ). Strong female characters that I am sure men and women readers will love in this story.
This was a very well thought out story and alot of research had to have been done also.

I will definately be reading Sean's 2nd book in this series in Dec.2011.

Kudos Sean , you have me hooked and looking forward to reading more of your books in this series.
I highly recommend this book to mystery/thriller readers.

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
MODEL AGENT BY SEAN SWEENEY

This refreshing perspective on the feminine hero was an exhilarating ride with a volatile mix of action and thrills. Agent Jaclyn Johnson is a stunning heroine who doesn't let her disabilities impede her activities as a CIA agent. She was born partially blind but can see shadows. At the age of 14, after her parents deaths in 9-11, the government took her under their wing and trained her to become a CIA agent and outfitted her with special Foster Grant glasses equipped with Heads Up Display (HUD) that enhances rather than hampers her duties as an agent.
I was quickly caught up in the intrigue of the storyline and impressed with the super spy gadgetry, which includes a loaded Porsche and specially outfitted I-Pad. I want those. The plot line was exceptional with lots of excitement from the start. Grant Chillings, the terrorist of the story made me worry about our country's safety if our bottled and natural water supply was tampered with. It made me think twice about drinking bottled water.

I'm highly anticipating reading the next installment of this explosive series.

I would recommend this book for readers who enjoy hold-onto-to-your-seat adventures with a lot of action and thrills. It also speaks to those who have a special place in their heart for kick ass heroine who overcome impossible odds to save the day.

5 stars given for the electrifying ride into Agent Jaclyn Johnson's world.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Great Read, September 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
I mentioned in a recent post that I did a lot of reading while the power was out thanks to Hurricane Irene's wrath. One of the stories I read was Model Agent, a thriller by Massachusetts resident and one of my fellow BNFFs Sean Sweeney.

I ended up purchasing a copy of Model Agent the Friday night before the storm hit, I believe it was, knowing the hurricane was coming and would inevitably leave us without power for a few days.

Before reading Model Agent, I had read excerpts Mr. Sweeney posted from the third installment in the Jaclyn Johnson series and was greatly impressed. I had very high expectations, to say the least.

There have been very few books in recent years that have been able to capture my attention so thoroughly that I don't want to put them down. This past year I've come across some really talented authors that I've reviewed/interviewed on this blog that have been able to enthrall me when so many others haven't been able to.

Unfortunately, for some of those amazing authors that drew me in, life got in the way, and I could only read a little bit of their stories each day. (I know, it's sad.) Not this time, though. I was able to read Model Agent in record time. In fact, I visited my parents during the power outage and told my mother I had to go home because I needed to finish the book.

If you're a fan of thrillers, this story is definitely one to read. It grabs you from the very first page and doesn't let you go until the very end, and even then you're left wanting more, which, to me, is a sign of a great author.

Also, if you're a fan of the Boston area, that's another good reason to read this novel. Mr. Sweeney included many well-known landmarks and he described them with such detail that it took me back to my trips into the city over the years.

As far as characters go, my favorite was the lead, Jaclyn. While I don't want to give away too much about her, I will say that she resonated with me. I love that the author included such a strong, vibrant female who can kick ass like no other female character I've seen. She definitely stood out and I can't wait to see where her journey takes her over the next two novels. I'm rooting for her.

In conclusion, I wholeheartedly give Model Agent 5 stars.

(And Sean, sorry for the delay in posting my review.)

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
This was a real page turner. It is about a terrorist and the CIA agent sent to track him down. There is more to the CIA agent than meets the eye! The tension was ramped up to fever pitch and over the course of a few nights I had matchsticks in my eyes trying to read 'just one more chapter'. The ending was very explosive and totally unexpected but nonetheless still very exciting. I cannot wait to read the next instalment (a titbit of which was included at the end). Well done Mr Sweeney, you certainly captured this readers attention!

Reviewed by Michele Tater for The Couch Tater Review

"My books are like water; those of the great geniuses are wine. (Fortunately) everybody drinks water." ~Mark Twain

As a grave situation takes an even uglier turn, the president of the United States of America, is forced to send a fairly new CIA agent to investigate. This is no ordinary agent though, she looks at herself as a defender of those that are weaker and is dedicated 100% to her country. Her name is Jaclyn Johnson, who is also a model hence the code name of Snapshot and has an handicap that she doesn't let get in her way. This bullet fast, action filled book follows the model/agent on her quest to take a mad man into justice no matter what. She has many high-tech cool gadgets that can help her do just that.

Most of the book takes place in the Boston, Massachusetts area, home of the Red Sox (my favorite baseball team I must add). It describes many land marks and roadway to get around the area too. It even takes the reader to a baseball game.

I am not even close to kidding when I say that this a fast paced read. There are not many parts where things slow down and may cause the reader to become bored. From the first chapter, I actually thought holy crap, I did not see that coming, and I know I said something to that effect through most of the book. That being said, that is why I am being a little vague in not giving the potential reader too much information of the book. I will say that it is like a ride in an 2010 Porsche AG 918 Spyder on full throttle trying to make the opening pitcher of a world series game, where the Red Sox are playing and have only one game to win it all. Also it will make you think twice about what you decide to have to drink from now on.

Really enjoyed this book! It is a fast paced thriller with a lot of twists and turns. After a horrific terrorist attack, a new agent, Jaclyn Johnson is sent in to investigate. Not everyone is happy about putting a green agent on the case which leads to some realistic, behind the scenes political power plays. Mr. Sweeny creates a believable villian that will make your skin crawl.

I love Jaclyn Johnson! She is a serious butt-kicker with an arsenal of spy gadgets James Bond would envy! I have never been to Boston, but there was enough detail about the area that I was able to clearly picture it in my head. This is the first book in the Jaclyn Johnson series and I cannot wait to see what happens next!

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
The tongue-in-cheek cover tagline says, "If Bond had boobs." In four words this gives the high-level view of Jaclyn Johnson. She's got Bond's good looks, enough to model as a cover, hiding her true career. She has the technology of Bond with a plethora of gadgets, a few she invented herself and some that (over) compensate for a rare eye condition that leaves her almost blind without an assist. Topping it off is a car that anyone would envy plus the brains behind the beauty to get the job done. In Jaclyn Johnson, Sweeney has a great new character I hope to see in many sequels.

Without giving away too much of the plot I'll say that it is also fitting of a Bond tale with an amoral megalomaniac pulling the strings in an evil and far reaching plot. The majority of the book takes place in the Greater Boston area. When a book is happening in a real location those who have some familiarity with the area can often picture the location in their mind's eye and this adds to the story. Although I've only visited once, I was still able to picture many of the landmarks of Boston as I was reading. This and other specific location color about the city and its history helped "put me there."

The last notable quality I found in "Model Agent" is something I wouldn't have expected in this genre, especially from a male author. Not only does it have a strong female as the lead character, but also two of the main secondary characters, the President of the US and the director of the CIA, are strong women in powerful positions. As a father and grandfather, this is something I like. Positive female role models, even fictional, are something I like to know are out there for my daughter and granddaughters to see.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reeled Me Right in!, September 16, 2011

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
I read this book in two days total. I started on it and got a couple of chapters in and then life got in the way and I had to put it down. Normally, I am a fantasy/paranormal kind of gal, but somehow, Sean managed to hook and reel me in with this one!

The story line was unusual and that caught my attention right from the beginning. The action all starts when several (at least 40) people are killed by drinking contaminated water from a bottled-water company at a concert. The action never ended after that.

Special agent "Snapshot", who is also a photo model and legally blind, is called in to investigate the case. I really liked Jaclyn Johnson for several reasons. First, she is a kick-arse-and-take-names-later kind of woman and I love strong female characters. Second, it is cool that a female plays a character in the book that would normally be played by a male; a special agent for the CIA. Third, Jaclyn is strong, but she also has a caring side and she shows it several times in the story. I'm glad that Sean created her this way because otherwise, she would have seemed very fake in my opinion. I mean, I have read stories where a strong female character never shows a softer side and it left me thinking, "What? A woman can't be both strong and caring, but a man can?!" I also love the fact that in Sean's story, the president of the United States is a WOMAN! About damn time! LOL! However, I must say that what happens to the president later on left a bad taste in my mouth, but (and here's a spoiler!) what a way to go!

I gave this story 4 stars and for me to give a action/thriller story 4 stars is unheard of, mostly because I just don't like the genre. But I did like Sean's book. He also has a second one featuring "Snapshot" called Rogue Agent and I bet it will be as good as the first!

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
I loved this book at the beginning. About 1/3 in, I thought I was just going to have to start skimming the pages, it just felt too over the top to me. That only lasted about 10 pages or so, then I was hooked again. It was a very good book. I enjoyed it and I want to read more of the main character in December when the next book is due out. Now having said that, the only negative that I have, and the reason that it didn't get a 5 star review is that it was mainly about the main character. ** Don't read past this if you don't want to see spoilers. ** The main character is like a modern day 007 who happens to be a woman. I don't mind that. I don't mind even that she's blind. What I can't get is that she's supposedly CIA, yet she works for the most part alone. I could have gotten it if she was a secret spy, or if the events she was assigned to were unknown to the rest of the world. Instead I'm expected to believe that the US President would allow a investigation of a terrorist act that killed dozens of people to be handled by one agent. It just would have been a better read for me if there were more agents involved or if she was a rogue agent sent in to work outside of the official investigation. Now having said that I LOVED the ending of it. Also, the negative part that I mentioned did not make bother me so much that it ruined the book for me. I *really* did enjoy it and I will be recommending this book to others!

Who ever wrote this book seems to know little about how our gov't operates. Though slightly interesting it is totally unbelievable and comes off as such. It appears to be not particularly well written or edited. Skims over many areas that need to have more details (correct details). For free, barely worth it.

Just because the book is free doesn't make it worth the time to read it. If you have anything else to read then read that book. The author displayed a severely limited vocabulary and characters repeatedly left you shaking your head wondering why they would make one unrealistic decision after another. It gets two stars (vs one) because it did have action and a couple cool gadgets.

Although it is fiction, it's inaccurate, unbelievable, has irrelevant place descriptions, and a labored writing style. Overall, it seems to be the musings of an adolescent boy who has spent too much time with video games and comic books. The exceptionally poor editing is the fault of the publisher.

A book will either have to be exceptionally good or pretty darn bad for me to want to write a review - literary critic is not in my list of talents. But I do have to say that this was a lousy book - it wasn't too bad for the first half, but the characters were cartoon-like, as another reviewer mentioned. I saw Holland Taylor (the mom on Two and a Half Men) as the president, but totally in Evelyn Harper character! Grant Chillings was more like a Count Dracula, and the heroine?? Oh, geez, give me a break! After about half way through the book, I wondered if I wasn't reading this "thriller" with the wrong attitude - maybe it was a tongue-in-cheek spoof of Stephanie Plum??? I had to finish it, but I couldn't wait for it to end. Sorry, Sean.

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
There were too many twists in this story to be likable. I don't even feel like I connected with the main character at all. It just really felt unrealistic that the main character, who is female, could do all the things that this author had her do in the story. It was almost like he mimicked James Bond and all of those other action movies. It didn't feel original at all. Also, I just had a hard time reading the writing style. Chalked full of overly dramatic scenes with far too much description of Boston. It was like Mr. Sweeney was proving to the readers that he knew the city. I felt like it really bogged the storyline down. I have learned that a good author is one who isn't so wordy and can eliminate unnecessary things. Hopefully he can learn to do this to tighten up his writing a tad bit better.

I really don't like to give bad reviews but in this case it cannot be helped. This book was honestly like a very bad Lifetime movie. I actually finished the book but only because I kept thinking it would get better. The characters and situations in this book are totally unbelievable. Luckily it was a free download.

Written more like a trashy romance novel....without the romance. Too much blah, blah, blah. You can skip 2-3 pages and miss nothing. Very disappointing. Don't fool yourself into thinking it will get better if you read more. It doesn't.

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
**Possible Spoilers** If I had to review this book in one word it would be 'ridiculous'. I had high hopes the first few pages as the initial crime unfolded. I went into it willing to suspend belief about a model using that profession as a cover for her real job as a CIA agent. When I read Jaclyn's back story about her parents and her near blindness I thought, "Hmmm...this is intriguing."
Before too long though it became apparent that this book was going to fail due to cartoonish bag guys, silly superhero type gadgetry, and a plot whose holes you could fly a plane through.
What could have been an interesting thriller was anything but. The villain of the piece was presented immediately. A mystery surrounding who murdered the 46 people with poisoned bottled water would have been engrossing. Instead, super baddie, (and comically sociopathic) Grant Chillings is dumped into the reader's lap.
I kept waiting for a clever explanation for his horrible deeds and how, exactly, he planned to gain the monopoly on the bottled beverage industry but it never materialized. His end game was that he was going to add poison to his competitor's products and the local water supply, thereby forcing people to drink his bottled water or nothing at all. He wasn't going to get caught or prosecuted for his crimes because he was justified in commiting them and the government wouldn't dare touch him. I'm no expert, but I believe that narcissists feel justified in their actions, but they aren't patently stupid.
When he murdered the entire Board of Directors of his company I was thinking, "You don't think somebody might notice you did that?"

Then we come to our heroine. Again, this could have been a very interesting character, but failed miserably. We are asked to believe that the government could only spare one inexperienced CIA agent and a 'watchdog' for her after 46 people die from poisoning and later 9 children are hospitalized in another attempt. That's how the government would react to terrorism?
When Agent 'Snapshot's' partner is eventually killed she is told by the director of the CIA that she'll have to 'go it alone' since they can't spare anybody else to help out with the investigation. Riiiigggghhhht.

The rest of this tale consists of Jaclyn running around in a skin tight black jumpsuit that is equipped with special spy toys, using her custom made spy Porche to wage war on Grant Chilling's laughable 'army' (in one of Boston's main government buildings, no less), and the female President of the United States using Boston's Duck Boats to storm the villain's lair. If it sounds stupid that's because it is...painfully so.
Also, the author's insistence on describing Jaclyn's profuse sweating as she runs around Boston in her spy suit and trenchcoat became sickening.

One surprise bright side to this book was the unintentional comedic factor. I found myself chuckling at several of the more absurd parts such as Jaclyn's mercurial response to different situations, which I can't imagine any self respecting CIA agent indulging in. Also, the idea of government sanctioned destruction of city property (including missiles launched from Jaclyn's car) had me laughing and shaking my head.
Most amusing were the spy toys Jaclyn had at her disposal. The unfortunate part is that none of them really helped her. With the exception of her body armor and the security system evading app for her iPad, the bad guys still kept getting the jump on her.
For a woman who was trained to use all her senses in deference of her very poor eyesight and who was required to take out several Navy SEALS as a part of that training; she was amazingly inept at defending herself.

I considered giving this book 2 stars because it had potential, but decided that it merited only one because of its blatant waste of a good story line.

This book needs an editor! The ideas were fun but the writing was so poor I gave up reading it. If the author couldn't afford an editor he should have asked an English teacher at his neighborhood high school. This book has everything your high school English teacher complained about: run-on sentences, overuse of commas, poor word choice, cliches. A thriller needs short sentences to move the action. This one has long, convoluted sentences that bog the reader down.

Plot started out as intriguing, but it went downhill from there. Characters were very contrived with no real depth to them, and it was a chore to get through this book. The plot and characters were not believable and the writing style was dreadful. I'm not sure why I stuck with it...never got any better. Do not waste your time with this book.

Painful to go through. I'm not sure what happened here, but this book had no foundation of reality in any area. Spy-dom, modelling, technology, interaction, dialogue, and action were so ill-conceived and farcically written. it was agonizing to get through. I've got a strong suspension of disbelief, yet this forced me to write my very first review.

example: The main character is a covert CIA operative. Who walks away from a crime scene with a case of evidence. Past a conglomeration of media-reporters who shoot video of her to put on the nightly news.

-just plain stupid.

This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
This has to be one of the worst books I have ever read! The author should be ashamed of so obviously committing plagiarism of the James bond storyline except with a female who works for the CIA. It isn't even a very good rip off. The storyline is ridiculous and far fetched, every time I thought the book could not get any more farcical it astounded me and did! The most far fetched of them being the president of the USA toting guns, riding on the front of a boat for a beach landing with the national guard! The whole book was like a script for a cheesy 80' action b movie that chuck Norris would have turned down for being too unbelievable!
Don't waste your time reading this pile of bilge and will someone please seek some medical help for those people that paid money for this and rated it with 5 stars!
Mr Sweeney find a new kind of employment cause after this rot I can't see many people buying any of your books!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Model Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
... was for Sean Sweeney to prove that he'd actually been to Massachusetts - and apparently EVERYWHERE in Massachusetts. It is the only way that the colossal amount of useless location description makes any sense.

In between those descriptions is a story - but one that makes little sense. First, the main protagonist is a secret agent, who can't put together very obvious clues to apprehend the villain. Well, we did have to get to that hokey climax, I suppose.

As far as that bad guy goes, I read the whole book and still have no idea what his motivation is. He seems to be driven by financial reasons, wanting to grow his bottled-water business, but denies that. He also say that he wants people to just drink water, out of some apparently religious/health/new age fervor that is never fully explained. Yet, he also says he will take over other beverage areas as well, preparing to move into the soda business that he says he abhors.

I know my explanation of it makes little sense, but it's really the best I can do with the info I was given.

This would read ilke a parody of a spy novel if it contained humor - or didn't obviously take itself much too seriously.

But if it was serious, the main character - Agent Snapshot - wouldn't be the only character with a nickname; something that comes off awfully when EVERYONE else in the book is addressed by name. There wouldn't be a peripheral character making a senate run that served no purpose other than to give a late swerve that was unnecessary to the story. And everyone in this world wouldn't talk in cliches.

Don't read this book.

I love spy and suspense thrillers. In the past year I've read about a hundred of them. This is one of those books where you keep reading to see if it can possibly get worse. It does! We have an inept blind "James Bond" wannbe female agent and a female president who thinks she's the reincarnation of George Washington crossing the Potomac. Give us a break Mr. Sweeny, stop writing.

After first meeting Jaclyn in Model Agent, I couldn't wait to read Rogue Agent and it did not disappoint. Each time I thought I knew what may happen next, I was surprised by something unexpected. Sean's style of writing places you right in the action, like you're there and you will grow to love Jaclyn. This is a book you won't want to put down and makes you wanting more! The Snapshot series is a slam dunk so far and can't wait to read Double Agent (it will be today).

You some times think that you know where the story is going but then poof, it changes course and leaves you scratching your head thinking "wow, I did not see that coming". Both of Mr. Sweeney's Snapshot series books were awesome reads!!! I am hoping that I have not seen the last of Ms. Johnson and her plethora of clandestine supplies. I at one point had to put down this story due to an out of state move (I do not like the text to speech on the Kindle), however I was able to pick right back up and sink right back into the story and I finished it in no time (ok, so I read till 3am to do it). I have and will continue to recommend this series to any of you out there in Kindle land that like a great action packed thriller!!

We first met Johnson, a female James Bond, in "Model Agent." As with Bond, Johnson has a technologically advanced bag of tricks and seems ready for anything. Bond's villains are often over-the-top, almost enough to consider satire; such was the case with the villain in "Model Agent." In "Rogue Agent" the villains are all too possible. Although bin Laden is dead, the organization he headed continues. The plot the terrorists have in this story, while ambitious, is far from unimaginable.

In this second book of the "Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series," Sweeney takes us on a fast paced thrill ride as Jaclyn tries to stop additional terrorist attacks and bring those responsible to justice. I found "Rogue Agent" an even better read than "Model Agent." Jaclyn is more emotionally involved in this case because her parents had died in the al-Qaeda attacks on 9/11. Her reactions to the events in "Rogue Agent" made me feel as if I was getting to know the character better. The political ramifications of a US agent operating on foreign soil assisting the British intelligence service made for a complex, yet more realistic plot. For several hours of action packed escapism, it doesn't get much better than "Rogue Agent."

Not usually one to read thrillers, I found myself unable to put this particular book down. Jaclyn Johnson is a character worth following throughout this story. What starts out as an attack on sports quickly transcends to the villain, Jafar, carrying an attitude that soon places Jaclyn in his cross-hairs. I have enjoyed the second installment of the Snapshot series and am looking forward to diving into the next one.

I really enjoyed Sean Sweeney's Model Agent: A Thriller which introduced us to Jaclyn Johnson. It was a Bond like secret agent story with some really clever twists. Rogue Agent: A Thriller is even better. Sweeney has deepened the character development of Jaclyn Johnson and her role as an American CIA agent. The first chapter of this book is really gripping and will break your heart. Sean Sweeney has a hit on his hands with the Jaclyn Johnson series and I for one hope he keeps adding books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, simply amazing!, July 26, 2011
This review is from: Rogue Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
This is a story about a terrorist bent on destroying the 2012 Olympic Games and the CIA agent sent to aid MI5 in stopping him.

From it's explosive (literally!) start this story showed great promise. By halfway through the death count was high and I was gripped. Well to be honest I was gripped from the first chapter but you know what I mean! Once again Sean took us on a roller coaster ride of madness. Having read Model Agent I knew what to expect and I wasn't disappointed. It was like stepping into a pair of comfy slippers, getting into Jaclyn's head again. From beginning to end the pace did not let up, and the ending was satisfying and slightly humorous, providing a good in joke for us Brits out there!

I totally and utterly recommend this one, you won't be disappointed and I cannot wait for the next one.

Did you notice the paid review? Hmmm... I didn't see one. There's some return readers, though. That's a good sign.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jaclyn saves the world (or Las Vegas) again!!, March 2, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Double Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
This is the third outing for CIA Agent Jaclyn Johnson, codename Snapshot. After being outed as a traitor in the last book, Jaclyn has been in hiding for the last month. Now reinstated and exonerated by the President, she has been hired to save Las Vegas from a group of religious zealots. First the newly-built monorail is destroyed, then a couple of gay clubs. Then word gets to Jaclyn that they have their sights on something much bigger. Can she save the day? With Tom Messingham from MI5 on board as her partner, it's a race against time!

This was great. I have read all the 'Agent' books so far and I have to say they just keep getting better each time! This one set off at a blistering pace and didn't let up until the final, shocking ending. Jaclyn is, as always, excellent as the female James Bond type. This time she is joined (again) by Tom Messingham from MI5, who also played her love interest. This allowed us to see another, softer side to her character. Who knew she was vulnerable after all? In situ as usual were the usual fast cars, gizmos and gadgets commensurate with her job.A fantastic romp and a darn good thriller. Please may we have more?

A great read for fans of Jaclyn, if not give the 'Agent' books a go, they are fabulous!

This review is from: Double Agent: A Thriller (Jaclyn Johnson, code name Snapshot series) (Kindle Edition)
The Jaclyn Johnson novels partially follow the same formula as Ian Fleming's James Bond novels, with their overblown villains and sexy protagonist with a toolkit full of futuristic tricks-of-the-trade. By moving the setting to the future (albeit, just a few years) and making his protagonist a female, Sweeney has added his own twists to the formula. Rather than communists and megalomaniacal psychopaths with the goal of world domination, Sweeney gives us villains who are religious fundamentalist terrorists or megalomaniacal psychopaths with the goal of world domination. Sweeney's heroine shows her humanity and the chinks in her armor much more readily than Fleming's Bond. Where Bond's only nod to human frailty is an apparent sexual addiction (offset by his superhuman ability to bed a series of unbelievably beautiful women), Johnson makes mistakes. While she tries to hide it, she has doubts. And as for her sexuality, her upbringing stunted her development in this area, which is just starting to catch up to her peers in this third installment of the series.

In a thriller, the plot matters more than the character, and Sweeney has put together a good, fast-paced plot full of the usual action, weapons (including the infamous WOMTD aka weapons of mass transit destruction), and technological tricks. But what separates one thriller from the next is the characters. While I'd rather be James Bond, I'd much rather know Jaclyn Johnson.

I somehow missed Rogue Agent, which is referred to, throughout this book, but needless to say, you really don't need it, except to fill in a few blanks. Someone is trying to wipe out Las Vegas, and of course, our super-heroine is sent in to get the sucker. Lots of action and really screwed up characters, the villain, especially. I prefer books with a little less sexual innuendo and foul language, but I still love Jaclyn. She's a study in opposites...sweet, loving and totally heartless. Sean Sweeney writes really good books. I haven't read them all, but enough to know I really like his stuff.

I read this book at the end of last year and was astounded by the intrigue, the plots, and the characters. I hadn't read thrillers in a while, not since my early days reading Don Pendleton's Executioner Mack Bolan, and this brought back memories of those but with a slicker plot and a female protagonist. Jaclyn Johnson could easily become my wife if she existed in the real world. A badass, bold, beautiful and she can put out with the best Bond has to offer. I plan to read the rest of the series, but one thing to be aware of. It's refreshing to know I can pick up any of these books and not be lost, because if they're like this one, they can stand on their own. Well done, Mr. Sweeney.

4.0 out of 5 stars A cold case finally takes off, May 28, 2012
This review is from: Cold Altar (Small Town PI series) (Kindle Edition)
Young Alex, son of a detective, is going into business as a Private Eye, with his Dad's support. His first case is a cold case...as in FRIGID! It was his Dad's case, and he has gotten it, in the hopes that fresh blood will somehow see what's been missing these past 31 yrs. An 11 yr old boy was kidnapped and killed. Even before Alex (Ally) can get his head wrapped around the case, he's warned to back off, and when that doesn't work, a contract is put on him. Strangely enough, it's these things at actually start giving clues to what happened. This isn't a huge book, but it comes out swinging, and moves fast.

Anybody see a paid-for review? No? Good. That's because you haven't. And when it comes to my books, you'll never see one.

I don't believe in paying for a review. I believe in busting my ass for my reviews, however good, bad, or indifferent. Like I said earlier, I'm glad I was able to invoke such a response out of these readers. They took the time to write their assessment of my work on Amazon. Kudos to them, and I honor them.

But did I pay for these reviews? Negative. I've sold over 6,200 books on Amazon, Nook, Sony, Kobo and Apple during the course of my career. I've been reviewed somewhere around 100 times. Not one red cent has gone from my pocket to the reviewers' pockets.

I'm living proof that it's possible to be a successful author without having to pay for reviews.
